Photo Commenting Is Brand New on OkCupid. And It’s Awesome.

Now you can comment directly on a crush’s photo — meaning no more confusion over which safari pic you like best

Complimenting a dog lover on their dog is a good move — photo commenting means you can do it even more easily now.

After testing the feature over and over again, and then releasing it into the wild as an experiment on a group of members, photo commenting is now available to everyone on OkCupid. Insert 👏 here.

It’s awesome, and it’s easy to use. In fact, one reason it’s awesome is because it’s easy to use. When you’re on someone’s profile and you see a photo you like that you want to say something about — like “I love tiramisu, too!” or “Which one of the 20 people in this pic are you?” — you just click on the message blurb in the bottom righthand corner and *voilà* you‘re sending them a message about that exact photo.

At OkCupid, we’re constantly working to make the experience better for everyone. So allowing members to comment on photos makes perfect sense. We get it — coming up with something to say to someone you haven’t met yet in person can be tough. Photo commenting provides the layup: you see something you like about someone. They like it about themselves too, because they posted a photo of it. You comment on that photo. And a conversation about the merits of hats, the safari you went on before safaris were cool, or why organic farming should be an Olympic sport begins. There’s some talk back and forth, and then you set up a date to meet in real life so you can discuss it all over avocado toast.

There are over 100 million photos on OkCupid, which means over 100 million opportunities to connect with someone over the things they — and you — care about. And stay tuned for more cool commenting features to come; we’re not done yet.

UPDATE: Now, not only can you comment on other members’ photos and Instagram pics, but you can also comment on specific essays. So if five of their six things they can’t live are the exact same as yours, let ‘em know! No need to reveal just yet that you actually despise the sixth thing they can’t live with—because who likes olives?!
